It MIGHT ask you to select a network. Select MDS-student, then login as usual.
Start using your iPad
Find the UTILITIES folder.
2. Meraki setup
Inside UTILITIES, open up the Meraki SM app.
If it says “Enrolled in All iPads” you are done!
If it asks you to select from a list of things, select “All iPads”.
If there is a field up top where you can type something, type this in [no spaces]
016 989 9899
Then click “Enroll”. There will be a series of dialogue boxes. In EACH one click the button that tells it YES or START or ENROLL – use your common sense!
Eventually you’ll see a webpage saying “waiting to enroll”. When you do, go home, and back to the Utilities folder.
3. Settings –> Email
Click Email
Setup NEW account
Click GOOGLE
Type in your Name, email address, password, description {I suggest MDS for the description}
Click NEXT
If all four items in the next screen are Green, click SAVE. [If not, make ’em green.]
4. Settings –> iCloud [CAN be done later – this sets up the auto-backup feature.]
Click iCloud
Sign in with your AppleID
Password SHOULD be same as moodle/email.
If moodle password does NOT have at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, AND one number:
If missing case – they were supposed to switch the case of the first letter in their password.
If missing number, they were supposed to add 1970 to the end of their password.
If it doesn’t work/they can’t remember it –> Click “Forgot AppleID/password”, and select the EMAIL option. [They probably don’t remember the answers to their security questions. If they do they can try that option.]
If it DOES work, you’ll see the iCloud settings screen.
OFF: mail, Find my Ipad
ON: whatever else [though Notes will require yet another setup process]
Click “Storage and Backup” button
Click “Backup Now” button.
At the end of the video I take about 30 seconds [NOT minutes like I say in the video!] to mention a few apps that are on their ipads now.
The text quicknotes version – SOME of the first few items may not show up on your iPad.:
First, check your Moodle password. Did you have to modify it to create an AppleID?
Moodle password:
UPPER AND lower case?
Number?
If Not:
UPPER AND lower case? →→→→→→ Changed the 1st letter to the other case
Number? →→→→→→ Added 1970 to the end
START
Set language
Set Region
Choose network – sign in
Click DONE
Next
ENABLE location services
Restore from iCloud Backup
Type in username & Password
Generally mds email address and Moodle password
EXCEPTION 1: if the moodle password does NOT have at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and one number, then:
if missing one case or the other: the FIRST letter was changed to the ‘other’ case
if missing a number. 1970 was added at the end of the moodle password
EXCEPTION 2: some 7th grade students have “temp” AppleIDs [i.e. tech+1@mds…..]. They are listed in the “Names and iPads” Google Doc. Password is Cavaliers1871

Some of these tips involve NON-youtube sites, and may change over time.
REPEAT: If you need to playback a video automatically, you can add the word “repeater” after “youtube” in the URL to open it in an external site that will play it back as often as you let it. You can also set it to play back just part of the video. So youtube.com/watch?v=kfVsfOSbJY0 becomes youtuberepeater.com/watch?v=kfVsfOSbJY0
DOWNLOAD: Just add “pwn” to the URL before “youtube” and you’ll be taken to an external site with multiple options for download formats. For example: youtube.com/watch?v=Sagg08DrO5U becomes pwnyoutube.com/watch?v=Sagg08DrO5U
NOT AVAILABLE IN YOUR COUNTRY: If you’re looking to get to a video that has some form of restriction on it, change the format of the video link from watch?v=IEIWdEDFlQY to /v/IEIWdEDFlQY
START IN THE MIDDLE: If you need to point someone to a certain portion of a video, you can always right click on the player and select “Copy video URL at current time.” However, if you need to be especially specific, you can modify the end variable that follows “t=X” where X is the number of seconds into the video that you want the player to start at. So the good part isn’t here: youtube.com/watch?v=9R6Ibz31DtE It’s here: youtube.com/watch?v=9R6Ibz31DtE#t=114
DISABLE RELATED VIDEOS: It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes the related videos that are shown at the end of a video can be unsavory. Or, perhaps you just find them irritating. If you want to disable the array of options that show up when the clip’s done playing, add “&rel=0” to the end of the URL in the embed code. Change src=”//www.youtube.com/embed/T0-2lzA7_Cg” to src=”//www.youtube.com/embed/T0-2lzA7_Cg?rel=0″
SKIP THE BORING PARTS: Just how much of your time on YouTube is wasted watching the boring parts of a video while waiting for the main event to begin? If you believe Wadsworth, the answer is about 30%. While it started as a joke, Google took it seriously enough to add the feature to YouTube itself. If you want to skip the unimportant intros, just add “&wadsworth=1” to the end of the URL. So this URL: youtube.com/watch?v=c0KYU2j0TM4 becomes youtube.com/watch?v=c0KYU2j0TM4&wadsworth=1
