Notability and iCloud

The newest versions of Notability automatically stash your Notes in iCloud – which is nice UNTIL something goes awry.

THE SYMPTOM:

Notability is as slow as Christmas, and you see the “I’m-working-on-it-spinning-icon” more often than not.

We’ve also seen where Notability was trying to bring back notes from LAST YEAR which were not needed [nor appreciated].

WHAT’S HAPPENING:

Notability has offloaded some of your notes in iCloud, and is having trouble fetching them back.

HOW TO FIX IT:

FIRST: Make absolutely sure your notes are backed up to Google Drive. If you haven’t organized them using Subjects and Dividers, now is a REAL good time to set that up. It will save TONS of time later.

SECOND: In Notability, go into Settings –> iCloud. Turn it OFF.

WARNING:

You very well might see some of your notes, dividers, and subjects disappear. If that happens, setup the notes and dividers again manually, and then download the missing material from Google Drive.

IOS 12 and missing iBooks

If you have upgraded your iPad to IOS 12, and now your iBooks are missing, try these fixes [taken from a variety of locations across the web}:

  1. Check for another system update in Settings –> General –> Software Update. [Student iPads –> This has to be done at home.]
  2. Do the iPad Reboot Dance.
  3. Redownload the books. In iBooks, click the link “Purchased”. Choose the ebooks you need to recover.
  4. Redownload from iCloud. assuming iCloud is set to backup your iBooks, then this might work.
Settings –> AppleID (at top left) –> iCloud.
Swipe down and turn the iBooks switch OFF.
    Wait 30 seconds.
    Do the  iPad Reboot Dance.
Back to Settings –> AppleID (at top left) –> iCloud –> iBooks.
    Turn the iBooksswitch ON.
    Check iBooks.
  5. Offload the iBooks app.
Go to Settings –> General –> iPad Storage –> scroll down to iBooks.
    Tap OFFLOAD APP.
    Shutdown, then restart the device.
Go back intoSettings –> General –> iPad Storage –> and press REINSTALL APP.
    Check iBooks.
If the books are still not there [or aren’t loading], then reboot your device again.
  6. Toggle iBooks Sync Off, then On.
Settings –> iBooks –> Sync Bookmarks and Notes.
    Open iBooks.
If they haven’t shown up, then close iBooks, change it back to ON, and check again

Sadlier Connect problems

If you are one of the “lucky” students who have a Sadlier assignment not loading on your iPad, please help out MDS Tech –  try the things listed below, and send an email to Mr. Rule or to Tech letting us know what worked and what didn’t.

This will help us research the problem. We’re working with Tech support to see if we can figure out what the solution is.

DO THIS ON A HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT, not a test – because you are going to be loading it in multiple times. Let’s avoid as many headaches as possible!

• According to Sadlier tech support, try ROTATING your iPad to see if it will display the page correctly. Also, try pinching in/out [zooming in and out] – sometimes that will work.

• If the assignment won’t load at school, try to load it at home. Does that make a difference?

• Swipe out of all your apps, shutdown the iPad. Wait 20 seconds. Start it back up. Reload the assignment. Any difference?

• You have THREE browsers on your iPad – Chrome, Safari, Firefox. Once an assignment won’t load, try to load it right then in the other 2 browsers.

•Pick a browser. Clear the cache, then try to load the assignment again.

Safari: Settings –> Safari –> Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the right side and select “Clear History and Website Data”

Chrome:  Click the three dots icon at top right. Select Browsing History. At the bottom, click “CLEAR BROWSING DATA”. Make sure there are checkmarks on “Browsing History, “Cookies, Site Data” and “Cached Images and Files”. Click the Clear Browsing History button at the bottom.

Firefox: Click the “hamburger menu” – the 3 horizontal parallel lines at the top right. Select Settings –>  Clear Private Data . Turn all sliders on [blue], and click Clear Private Data.
