Make SURE your Notability files are backing up to Google Drive
First, Open Notability.
2. On the screen where your documents are listed, at bottom left, click the gear icon.
Gear = Settings. ? = help. i = app info.
3. Select AutoBackup.
4. if Google Drive has a checkmark, your files are being backed up. Look at the bottom of the box to check the location – the iPad Guy suggests /Notability/ as the location [i.e. inside a folder named “Notability”]
If there is NO checkmark, then click on the text Google Drive. Login.
5. IMPORTANT: In the File Format section, change the selection from “note” to PDF+Recording”. This is so you can open up your notes just about anywhere.
Getting files from Drive into Notability
The middle icon is “import”.
FIRST:
Get your Dividers and Subjects setup in Notability
Select a location[folder] in Notability. THEN select what to import. Drive is organized just like notability was – if you had folders/dividers in Notability, then you will see folders in Drive, inside the Notability folder. Your Notability selection is WHERE the files will be imported to.
You will need to do this for each folder/divider you set up.
Once you get Notability setup:
Open up Notability
Click the icon, top right, that looks like a square with an arrow going INTO it
Select Google Drive
It should automatically show you the Notability folder on your Drive.
Select what you’d like to import.
REMEMBER THAT Folders on Drive = “Subjects” in Notability.

There are three basic types of styli available for use with iPads – but which ones can be used depends on what model iPad you have [each class has a different model, mostly].
Stylus Types
“Rubbery Tip” – these are the cheapest [and therefore the least painful when they are lost.] They should work with all iPads on campus. The downside is that some people really don’t like how they feel when writing.
Bluetooth – [also known as “active”]. These use Bluetooth to communicate with the iPad, and thus require pairing, and have an internal (rechargeable) battery. Many of these feel better when writing, compared to the rubbery type – and there are a variety of designs available that can feel quite a bit different. On the downside they are more expensive, and require charging – so if you are the type who usually forgets to charge up your iPad, this type would add another recharge thing to your list. Apple Pencil / Logitech Crayon – These two products will only work with iPad 5 and iPad 6 [2017, 2018] – i.e. Freshmen and Sophomores. [NOTE: Apple Pencil ONE, not the Pencil TWO that was recently released.] These are on the more expensive side, but do work well and feel quite nice. The Pencil is $89 from the Apple Education Store [Simply Mac over in the Shoppes at Riverside Crossing may match that price.] Click here to see a web search for the Logitech product, which is less expensive and works well but is not as “slick”.
