Notability; TAPE tool

TAPE!

This is a tool that can help you learn from your notes. USe the tape tool to cover over the notes – see if you remember the material, and then tap to reveal the hidden areas.

Here is how to add Tape

  1. Select right arrow in toolbar.png to expand the toolbox and then select tape.png.
    • Choose from three different sizes of tape. 
  2. Draw, as you typically would, over any note content that you’d like to hide and Tape will cover it.
    • When drawing vertically, hold to make a straight line first and then draw.
  3. Tap on tape to reveal the content.
    • A colored border will appear around the revealed area. Tap inside the outline to re-cover with tape.

Remove Tape

  • Erase with Full Eraser to remove Tape from the area completely.

Notability and Google Drive – the 2023 edition

It is CRITICAL that you have your Notability notes backing up to Drive, AND in the correct format. This lets you retrieve your Notes using ANY internet enabled device, and the Notes are backed up as you create each one.

Another advantage: If you delete a note from your iPad, it does NOT get deleted from Drive.

Here’s how to set this up:

BEFORE switching to a Managed AppleID

We are [slowly] migrating to using managed AppleIDs. BEFORE you switch away from your old one:

  • Fire up Notability
  • Switch to Settings
  • Select iCloud
  • TURN IT OFF
  • Select “Keep on my iPad”
  • Switch to Autobackup.
  • Make ABSOLUTELY certain your files are backing up to Google Drive
    • If they aren’t, set that up RIGHT NOW
  • Swipe out of Notability
  • Settings –> Sign into your Managed AppleID.

This will keep you from losing all of your Notability notes when you switch.
