{"id":916,"date":"2017-10-02T08:49:24","date_gmt":"2017-10-02T13:49:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tech2.mountdesales.net\/?p=916"},"modified":"2017-10-02T08:49:24","modified_gmt":"2017-10-02T13:49:24","slug":"ipad-out-of-room","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tech.mountdesales.net\/?p=916","title":{"rendered":"iPad out of room"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Here&#8217;s how to tell how much storage you have used on your iPad, and how to tell what is using it up:<\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>To see how much storage you have already used up on your iPad, go to<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Settings &#8211;&gt; General &#8211;&gt; About<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Look for the line <strong>Available<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Anything less than about 400 MB means you need to clean out your unused stuff.<\/p>\n<p>To see what is using up your storage space, go to<\/p>\n<p><strong>Settings &#8211;&gt; General &#8211;&gt; Storage and iCloud Usage &#8211;&gt; in the Storage section, click &#8220;Manage Storage&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You will see a list of the apps after a minute or so, with the apps taking up the most room at the top of the list.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Some general advice:<\/p>\n<h3>Photos<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Assuming you have setup Google Drive correctly to automatically upload your photos and videos, you&#8217;ll still have a copy of them in Drive, even if you delete them from your iPad. [They&#8217;ll be the Google Photos folder on Drive].<\/li>\n<li>To ACTUALLY delete photos\/videos from your iPad, open up Photos &#8211;&gt; Camera Roll.<br \/>\nClick SELECT.<br \/>\nClick on the photos\/videos you want to delete.<br \/>\nClick the Trash icon, top left.<br \/>\nClick the\u00a0 message &#8220;Delete these x photos?&#8221;<br \/>\nClick &#8220;Albums&#8221;, top left<br \/>\nOpen up &#8220;Recently Deleted&#8221;<br \/>\nClick &#8220;Select&#8221;, top right<br \/>\nClick &#8220;Delete All&#8221;, top left.<\/li>\n<li>If you don&#8217;t clear out the Recently Deleted folder manually, it will empty itself in about a month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Google Apps [Drive \/ Sheets \/ Docs]<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Google apps all have an option to store your document &#8220;locally&#8221; on the iPad. If you no longer need docs available when you don&#8217;t have an internet connection, then check the Docs part of this article:\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/tech2.mountdesales.net\/blog\/2016\/ipads-whats-taking-up-all-my-storage\/\">iPads &#8211;&gt; what&#8217;s taking up all my storage?<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Miscellaneous Space Hogs<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Messages &#8211; those messages with pictures and videos take up ROOM. Delete them.<\/li>\n<li>Mail &#8211; sometimes the Mail app takes up a ton of room. Actually, it&#8217;s all those emails that you never deleted. Delete them.<br \/>\n&#8211;&gt; If deleting the mails sound like too much, then delete the account<br \/>\n[Settings &#8211;&gt;Mail&#8211;&gt; Accounts&#8211;&gt;Select the account&#8211;&gt;&#8221;Delete Account&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8211;&gt; This does NOT actually delete your account from the Mail server &#8211; it just deletes your &#8220;window&#8221; into your mail account.<br \/>\n&#8211;&gt; Then re-create it. For the MDS email, it&#8217;s a Google account type.<\/li>\n<li>iMovie &#8211; delete your projects. You can export them into your Google drive if you&#8217;d like a copy of your final project.<\/li>\n<li>Notability &#8211; anything deleted in Notability goes into a trash can which is emptied after about a month\u00a0 [similar to the way Photos works].
