{"id":618,"date":"2015-09-23T13:18:22","date_gmt":"2015-09-23T18:18:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tech2.mountdesales.net\/?p=618"},"modified":"2015-09-23T13:18:22","modified_gmt":"2015-09-23T18:18:22","slug":"java-applet-problems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tech.mountdesales.net\/?p=618","title":{"rendered":"Java applet problems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you are on a webpage that is running a Java applet and the thing isn&#8217;t running [<em>or just won&#8217;t work right!<\/em>], these instructions from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.math.ucsd.edu\/~crypto\/fixjava.html\">http:\/\/www.math.ucsd.edu\/~crypto\/fixjava.html<\/a> may help.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>How to Fix Java Applet Security Errors<\/h3>\n<h4>Security Errors When Loading Java Applets<\/h4>\n<p>Did you get errors like the following when you tried to run a Java applet in the web browser?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><b>Your Java version is out-of-date.<\/b><br \/>\n<b>Application Blocked<\/b><br \/>\n<b>Application Blocked by Security Settings<\/b><br \/>\n<b>Your security settings have blocked an application from running with an out-of-date or expired version of Java.<\/b><br \/>\n<b>Your security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For security reasons, recent versions of Java may block unsigned Java applets from automatically running by default.<\/p>\n<h4>Solution #1<\/h4>\n<p>If you are allowed to install\/upgrade software on your computer, please <a href=\"http:\/\/www.java.com\/\"><b>install the latest Java upgrade<\/b><\/a> first, relaunch the web browser, and try again.<\/p>\n<h4>Solution #2<\/h4>\n<p>If you are unable to install\/upgrade to the latest Java version, and you trust the unsigned Java applet to be safe, you can workaround this problem by adding an &#8220;exception site&#8221; or temporarily lowering the security level of the currently installed Java:<\/p>\n<h5><b>For Microsoft Windows:<\/b><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the Windows &#8220;Start&#8221; menu in the lower-left corner of the screen &#8211;&gt;<br \/>\n&#8220;Control Panel&#8221; &#8211;&gt;<br \/>\n&#8220;Programs&#8221; &#8211;&gt;<br \/>\n&#8220;Java&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>In the &#8220;Java Control Panel&#8221; window that appears &#8211;&gt;<br \/>\nClick the &#8220;Security&#8221; tab.<\/li>\n<li>If there is a &#8220;Exception Site List&#8221; section in this window, click on the &#8220;Edit Site List&#8230;&#8221; button &#8211;&gt;<br \/>\nClick the &#8220;Add&#8221; button &#8211;&gt;<br \/>\nType in the web server location for the Java applet like &#8220;http:\/\/www.math.ucsd.edu\/&#8221; &#8211;&gt;<br \/>\nClick the &#8220;OK&#8221; button &#8211;&gt;<br \/>\nClick the &#8220;OK&#8221; button.<\/li>\n<li>If there is no &#8220;Exception Site List&#8221; section in this window &#8211;&gt;<br \/>\nSlide the &#8220;Security Level&#8221; indicator from &#8220;High&#8221; down to &#8220;Medium&#8221; &#8211;&gt;<br \/>\nClick the &#8220;Apply&#8221; button &#8211;&gt;<br \/>\nClick the &#8220;OK&#8221; button.<\/li>\n<li>Close ALL of the open windows. You must completely QUIT the web browser or this workaround will fail.<\/li>\n<li>Re-launch the web browser.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the Java applet.<\/li>\n<li>When the &#8220;Security Warning&#8221; window asking &#8220;<em>Do you want to run this application?<\/em>&#8221; appears, if there is a &#8220;<em>I accept the risk and want to run this app<\/em>.&#8221; option, checkmark it ON first then &#8211;&gt;<br \/>\nClick the &#8220;Run&#8221; button.<\/li>\n<li>The Java applet should load OK now.
