{"id":309,"date":"2014-08-11T20:47:44","date_gmt":"2014-08-12T01:47:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tech2.mountdesales.net\/?p=309"},"modified":"2014-08-14T14:35:43","modified_gmt":"2014-08-14T19:35:43","slug":"ipad-setup-august-2014-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tech.mountdesales.net\/?p=309","title":{"rendered":"iPad Setup: August 2014 edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are the concise instructions for getting the first part of your iPad setup.<\/p>\n<p>Click here &#8211;&gt;<a href=\"http:\/\/tech2.mountdesales.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/iPad-handout-2014.pdf\">iPad handout 2014<\/a><br \/>\nif you&#8217;d like the PDF version of today&#8217;s presentation.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>1.\u00a0If your Moodle\/email password does NOT have<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>at least one uppercase letter<\/li>\n<li>at least one lowercase letter<\/li>\n<li>at least one number<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then you need to create an &#8220;iCloud&#8221; password from your Moodle password by :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>if missing an uppercase letter &#8211;&gt; Make the first letter uppercase<\/li>\n<li>if missing a lowercase letter &#8211;&gt; Make the first letter lowercase<\/li>\n<li>if missing a number &#8211;&gt; Add the number 1871 to your Moodle password<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Call this your &#8220;iCloud&#8221; password. Write it down.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Join a wireless network<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Settings &#8211;&gt; \u00a0Wi-Fi<\/li>\n<li>Select a network [MDS-Student if on campus]<\/li>\n<li>MDS-Student should popup a login page<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>3. AppleID setup, part one<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Settings &#8211;&gt; iCloud<\/li>\n<li>Click the button to create a new account<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;ll have a multi-step dance to waltz through. Use your common sense and follow the directions.<\/li>\n<li>Use your MDS email address [mds#####@mountdesales.net] plus your moodle password [or your modified moodle password from step 1].<\/li>\n<li>The security questions are used if you forget your password.<\/li>\n<li>IF you get an error message that says something like &#8220;this email address has already been used&#8221; &#8211;&gt; you have already used your MDS email account on another Apple device. In this case, log in using the fields at the top of the screen. If you don&#8217;t know your password, retrieve it [Click the &#8216;I forgot my password&#8217; button]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>4. Mail setup<\/h2>\n<p>Although you can check your email at <a href=\"http:\/\/webmail.mountdesales.net\" target=\"_blank\">webmail.mountdesales.net<\/a>, it is much easier to check it using the Mail app. To set it up:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Settings \u2192 Mail<\/li>\n<li>Add Account<\/li>\n<li>Google<\/li>\n<li>Email is mdsxxxxx@mountdesales.net<\/li>\n<li>password is your Moodle password<\/li>\n<li>Description &#8211; I use \u201cMDS\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Click NEXT<\/li>\n<li>If you see four checkmarks = It worked!<\/li>\n<li>If you get an error message &#8220;Username or Password incorrect&#8221;, then you probably typed something incorrectly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>5. Setup Google Drive<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Search for \u201cDrive\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Click it to crank it up<\/li>\n<li>1st login screen: JUST mds email. Don&#8217;t bother with your apssword &#8211; it&#8217;s going to ask for it again.<\/li>\n<li>2nd login screen: email &amp; password<\/li>\n<li>You will probably have to agree to the terms and conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>6. iCloud setup, part 2<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Find MAIL app.<\/li>\n<li>You should an email from Apple. Open it.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the Verify link<\/li>\n<li>Login to AppleID site using your\u00a0mds email address and Moodle\/Modified Moodle password<\/li>\n<li>Once that&#8217;s done, switch to Settings \u2192 iCloud<\/li>\n<li>Click Storage &amp; Backup button.<\/li>\n<li>Turn on iCloud Backup.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>7. Meraki Systems Manager &#8211; MODIFIED\u00a0Thursday 08\/14\/14<\/h2>\n<ol style=\"color: #444444;\">\n<li>Find the Meraki MDM app and start it up.<\/li>\n<li><strong>IF &#8211;&gt;<\/strong> you see a list of networks, click &#8220;All iPads&#8221;. You will see a series of boxes asking you to install. YES, you REALLY DO want to install it!<\/li>\n<li>IF &#8211;&gt; you get an error, and then an area to type something in [and a couple of buttons including one that says QR code], then type this number in:\u00a0<b>016 989 9899 and press REGISTER<\/b><\/li>\n<li>You MIGHT get a box saying that Location Services must be turned on for this App. It Click the &#8220;settings&#8221; button, and you&#8217;ll be taken to Location Services. Turn it ON [make the slider green]. and then move the slider next to MerakiMDM.<\/li>\n<li>If it asks about Weather using location services &#8211; that&#8217;s up to you. Turning it on for the weather app will let the app give you the weather for your current location.<\/li>\n<li>Switch back to the meraki app, just to make sure that there&#8217;s a checkmark by &#8220;All iPads&#8221;.
