These are the things MDS Tech does to prepare your iPad for replacement. During this eLearning season, the process needs to change.
Make sure you take care of these things, if your iPad is operational:
1) Confirm that Notability files are being backed up – in Notability, click the gear icon, bottom left. Select Autobackup, and make sure there’s a checkmark beside Google Drive.if there isn’t check it, login, and let the backups commence.
2) Fire up Google Photos. Make sure your photos and videos are backing up to Drive. Click the “hamburger menu” – the three horizontal lines at the top right.
3) if you have anything else that you’d like to keep – Textilus documents, iMovies, etc – find a way to stash them somewhere. You could send them to Drive, or email them to yourself. Each app has it’s own solution.
Then contact MDS Tech to arrange a time to meet in the ARC. We are working partly on campus and partly from home.
Note that the standard policies apply here – there is a $100 charge for the repairs [which usually cost much more than that]. The business office will send an invoice in due course.
If the iPad Guy has asked you to swap out your iPad, here is a list of things you need to do on your OLD iPad before turning it in.
If you can’t – because the screen is too damaged, etc. – then it’s possible you MIGHT lose some data. At the very least the process will be more inconvenient [as opposed to catastrophic].
- Settings –> iCloud –> Backup. “BACKUP NOW”. Wait for it to complete – it will take a while.
- Notability –> Settings [gear icon on the front screen]. Make SURE AutoUpdate is turned ON.
- Drive –> Look inside the notability folder, make sure your latest notability stuff is there. Look inside the “Google Photos” folder – make sure your pix are there. If they aren’t, then manually copy them up to that folder [Plus icon, bottom right, select Photos album, click on the pictures that are missing, click the Blue Checkmark to start the upload.]
Once this is done we can start working on your replacement iPad.
- “My iPad isn’t working”
- “Mr. Rule has my iPad so I don’t have to do my homework”
- “I tried to send my homework and it didn’t work so I don’t have to do anything about it.”
- “My internet wasn’t working so I don’t have to turn in my homework.”
- “I can’t get Google Drive to submit a file into Moodle so I don’t have to do my homework.”
- “I tried to email the file but it wouldn’t go so I’ll just forget about it. It’s not my problem.”
It is up to YOU, the student,
to make sure things get done,
IN SPITE OF TECHNICAL GLITCHES.
When something goes wrong, there is ALWAYS a different path you can take to get your homework in. Check with your teacher if in doubt – some teachers prefer some methods over others. AT THE VERY LEAST prove you tried to submit it:
- take a screenshot,
- show your teacher your Outbox that has the emails you attempted to send,
- send an email WITHOUT the attachment to let them know you are trying,
- Login to Drive on an ARC computer [Drive.Google.com] and email or submit the file from there. Remember that your Notability documents are being AUTOMATICALLY backed up to Drive. [If you have gotten your iPad updated they may be in iCloud as well!]
- ASK FOR HELP.
There are even MORE options for getting your work turned in. Talk to your teacher or Mrs. Andrews or Mr. Rule.
Acceptable excuses are rare.
……..and if you think that’s HARSH, just wait until you get to college. Ask Mr. Rule – he taught college for longer than you’ve been alive.
By the way, teachers can check the “iPad Hospital List” just like you can to see if your iPad is indeed being worked on.
